TAPE TRADING
INFORMATION

YOU MUST READ THIS BEFORE YOU CONTACT ME FOR COPIES / TRADES
[email protected]

HOW DO I GO ABOUT TRADING WITH YOU?

E-mail me, to begin with. Even if what you have isn't quite what I'm looking for then I will copy what tou want anyway (with a few exceptions, as listed later) - see 'WHAT IF I HAVE NOTHING TO TRADE?'. If you have what I'm looking for, then we'll arrange a straight swap, generally. ie, you'll supply a tape for my copy, and send it to me, and I'll supply a tape for you and send it to you.

If we are trading, then I do prefer that I receive the tape from you first. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's safer that way. I haven't had any problems yet (touch wood), but if I do then I will stick to this system.

WHAT IF I HAVE NOTHING TO TRADE?

Firstly, in an ideal world I would like to trade tapes with people who have what I want, and I have what they want. However, this isn't always the case. But, I might have something that you want, but you have nothing to trade. In this case, I'm quite happy to copy what you want regardless. I got some of my best videos via a friend who copied with nothing in return from me, to begin with. Basically, I'm quite happy to copy something with nothing in return (with a few exceptions, as listed below). All that I'll want will be the tape to copy on to, and return postage. Honestly, that's all. I don't really agree with people who charge for copies (although I don't blame them, it's an easy way to pay for an expensive hobby). Besides, it's a clear breach of copyright to charge for copies of material. Which brings me nicely on to...

WHAT WILL, AND WHAT WON'T YOU COPY?

The list included on my web page is my master list. It includes everything, near enough. However, there are some things that I can't, or won't, copy. I DO NOT COPY MATERIAL THAT IS COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE. This is a total breach of copyright. I do know if something is available in the UK and USA, so if you ask for a video which I know is available, then I'll tell you where your best chances of getting it is from. I MAY make exceptions for things which are not readily available (eg things available from mail order & specialist shops) if I feel that it really is difficult to get hold of, despite technically being available. In this case I will almost certainly copy material only for a trade, because otherwise you are getting a programme for free, which deprives the makers of their profits. Again, if it really is not abvailable, then I will copy it for free.

That was what I won't copy. here are some things which I can't copy. In the main, this is NTSC (American Standard) tapes. It is simply impossible to do this unless you can convert it to the PAL (British) standard or be able to record in NTSC. If you can do either of this, and want one of my NTSC tapes, then contact me. I may consider sending you the tape to copy.

SOME NOTES ON VIDEO STANDARDS:

It is important that you are aware that there are different standards of video in the world. In the UK, Australasia and most of Europe we use the system called PAL. In North America and Canada, they use NTSC. I can only copy in PAL, which means that most people in the USA will not be able to view may tapes (although most new VCRs in the UK can playback NTSC tapes). Sorry, but there is nothing that I can do about this.

FINAL PONTS:

- I copy only onto VHS
- I cannot copy in true strereo, as I have only one Nicam VCR.
- If I do not receive enough trades, as opposed to just straight copies to help people out, then I might have to stop, if I get too busy, as it wouldn't be worth it. So, if you do have something to trade, please don't just ask for a copy.
- I do not accept any monies from people. It may cost more for postage (sending a tape two ways, rather than one), but I do not want to be in a position where I am making a profit (no matter how small) from this.
- Atthe moment I cannot copy items marked NTSC. If anyomne knows of a not too expensive converter for copying American tapes in the UK, then please contact me.

ANY QUESTIONS? THEN E-MAIL ME. [email protected]

MY MASTER LIST OF VIDEOS

YOU MUST READ MY NOTES SECTION BEFORE CONTACTING ME

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ANYTHING NOT LISTED HERE, ASK ME,
AND I MIGHT BE ABLE TO TRACK IT DOWN FOR YOU

I have used the following system to assess for quality:
EXCELLENT - First generation copy in SP
VERY GOOD - (with plus and minus levels). Generally something is VG not EXCELLENT because it is in LP, has a small fault or is second generation.
GOOD - (with plus and minus levels). Something with a noticeable fault, is more than 2nd generation or a copy of an LP recording.
BORDERLINE - Might be watchable if you are really desperate for a copy.
POOR - Unwatchable quality.

If something has an on-screen logo, then I will say so, and briefly describe it - eg UK Gold Gold Bar logo.
I will also try to say if something includes adverts.

Natural Born Killers

If you are looking for films permanently unavailable in the UK (The Exorcist, A Clockwork Orange etc..) then e-mail me, and I'll recommend a couple of online video stores who are good at importing.

I have got more than this, but haven't got time to make a complete list.
Ask if you are looking for a TV programme or film which isn't here.
